The band initially sued UMG in October 2024, alleging that the label withheld significant royalties totalling as much as $200 million, while also accusing the company of “fraud,” claiming they “designed and implemented royalty software and systems that were deliberately designed to conceal artists’ royalties and keep those profits for itself.” Despite UMG’s efforts to dismiss the lawsuit, the federal judge’s recent ruling paves the way for an eventual trial between the band and the record label.
