Body Count Teams Up With David Gilmour On Reworking Of Pink Floyd’s “Comfortably Numb”

Ice-T’s hard rock band Body Count have just shared a reworked cover of the Pink Floyd classic, “Comfortably Numb.” Their rendition modernizes the 1980 hit, which features new guitar riffs from former Floyd member David Gilmour and contemporary rhymes from Ice-T. The track is lifted from Body Count’s forthcoming album, Merciless, due out November 22. The band’s initial request to Floyd’s publisher about covering the song was rejected, with Ice-T recalling, “It was not a diss, but kind of like ‘Pink Floyd doesn’t do samples.’” But when he took their version directly to songwriters’ Gilmour and Roger Waters, the two feuding rock legends both signed off on it. “Once we got to David, he was like, ‘I love this song. I approve it,’” says Ice-T. “And then Roger listened to it and his only comment was, ‘Who’s singing?’ When he heard it was Ice-T, he approved it.’ To have two people who sit on two opposite sides of the fence agree on a song, that means it must be good.” (Consequence of Sound)
